Trump endorses State Treasurer Curt Meier

President Donald Trump announced today that he is endorsing Wyoming State Treasurer Curt Meier in the state’s Republican Primary on August 16.

“Curt Meier is doing a fantastic job as Wyoming State Treasurer. Importantly, he is a big fan of Harriet Hageman, and has previously endorsed her. Curt is a very successful businessman, Strong on Crime and Protecting our under siege Second Amendment, and is working hard to Grow Wyoming’s Economy, Stop Inflation, Champion Small Businesses, Protect Taxpayer Dollars, Protect Voter Integrity, Fight for Energy Independence, and Advance the Great American Dream. Curt Meier is also a hardworking Fighter for Wyoming Families, and he has my Complete and Total Endorsement!” the former president proclaimed on social media.

It is the second time this summer that the 45th President of the United States has indicated his support for Wyoming’s current State Treasurer. He also gave kudos to Meier during a “Save America” rally at the Ford Wyoming Center on May 28.

Meier said he was grateful, and a “little overwhelmed,” by the endorsement, and pledged to continue to follow the conservative values that set the course for his first term, and have served as his guide through nearly 30 years of public service to the people of Wyoming.

“It really is an incredible honor to be endorsed by President Trump,” Meier said after learning of Trump’s endorsement. “I was honestly blown away by his kind words in Casper a couple of months ago, and pleased that he has noticed the good work we’re doing here in Wyoming.”

Since Meier took office in January of 2019, Wyoming’s investments grew from $20 billion to more than $25 billion. The state’s investment team also garnered a nomination for “Best Turnaround” from Institutional Investor Publication for Wyoming’s Private Equity Fund after returns climbed from 7.2% to a staggering 39% in just one year. The fund followed that up by logging a 37% return the next year. Those investments have provided hundreds of millions of dollars to Wyoming’s general fund to address the needs of Wyoming taxpayers.

Meier said he is also proud of the fact that the Peterson Institute for International Economics examined his office in the areas of governance, transparency, accountability, structure, and behavior and found that Wyoming is now the #1 rated sovereign wealth fund in the United States.

Although less heralded, the achievements of the Unclaimed Property Division of the State Treasurer’s Office are also points of pride for the incumbent Treasurer after they again set records for the amount of checks sent out and dollars returned to rightful owners.

Meier is a former state senator from Goshen County - where Hageman also resides. He served in the legislature for 24 years prior to becoming Treasurer, said that he and his staff are motivated to produce results like this because they are aware of how important their work is for the people of the state.

“There are just so many things that are going right in our office, and what is really rewarding to the people working there is that they get to make a difference in people’s lives. We’ve improved the lives of every person in Wyoming in some way,” Meier said.

Armed with President Trump’s endorsement, the State Treasurer expressed confidence in the coming election and welcomed a chance to be able to put his full focus back on the business of his office after August 16.

“The Biden administration has created numerous challenges for Wyoming — whether it be historic inflation, looming recession or the all-out war on fossil fuels — but our office made substantial efforts to prepare for the current downturn. We’ve increased our diversity and made changes to asset allocations that are not as sensitive to stock market fluctuations. There will undoubtedly be opportunistic circumstances in the months to come that can offer substantial risk-based returns, and I think we’re well positioned to take advantage of those opportunities,” he said.
